The HPLC analytical technique used at the LOV is very robuste and sensitive,  allowing for the quantification of pigment concentrations over a wide range from the eutrophic waters of upwelling zones (greater than (20 mg.m^-3) to the ultra-oligotrophic waters of the South Pacific Ocean gyre (less than 0.02 mg.m^-3 at the surface).
